Dear CERF Members,

For those in Texas and Louisiana affected by Hurricane Harvey, know that CERF members' thoughts are with you and all those impacted. We have set up this forum so that members can let us know that they are safe, and also let us know what we can do to help. How can CERF members help you get through the aftermath of the storm, personally and professionally? Please feel free to let us know what you need!

Members should also feel free to share the resources they have on this board, whether it be information, donations, a place to stay or work, or your time.

CERF members want to help, so we hope you'll please let us know what you need!

Sincerely,

Susan Park
CERF Executive Director

Unfortunately, the University of Texas Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. A website has been set up to raise funds to support displaced students, post-docs, faculty and staff with housing and living expenses, and to help rebuild the UTMSI campus. Visit https://hornraiser.utexas.edu/project/7548 to donate and for more information.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) has stepped up to provide temporary lab, office, classrooms, and housing for UTMSI.

You can read more about the situation at UTMSI at https://utmsi.utexas.edu/blog/entry/hurricane-update-and-utmsi-resources

Unfortunately, we are also now tracking the impacts of Hurricane Irma on our friends and colleagues. We have heard that Jobos Bay NERR (Puerto Rico) and Rookery Bay NERR (Naples, FL) have fared reasonably well, with all staff safe and minimal damage. We'll keep you posted here as we learn more.

In the meantime, Mission-Aransas NERR was heavily impacted; here is a website where you can provide financial support:

Please continue to check in and share resources and news.

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) was heavily impacted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Substantial damage was sustained to the campuses, impacting classes and normal operations. UVI has set up a relief fund to provide assistance to students, faculty and staff who were impacted by the storm. You can donate at: http://www.uvi.edu/administration/institutional-advancement/development/uvi_rise_relief_fund.aspx

CERF is proud to collaborate with UVI on the NSF Includes Project "Seas Your Tomorrow": http://www.seasyourtomorrow.org/ We wish the best for our partners on the US Virgin Islands. UVI is a public, co-ed, land-grant HBCU (Historically Black College and University) in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), with a strong marine science program.

As we all know, Puerto Rico was heavily impacted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. We have learned that researchers at El Verde Field Station/Luqillo LTER are working to recover and resume research operations. If you would like to learn more or contribute to their efforts, please go to: https://www.gofundme.com/evfs-repairs-and-operating-costs
