Seeking volunteers for USA Science & Engineering Festival

Calling all CERF Members in the DC Metro Area!

We are looking for volunteers to staff our exhibit at the 2018 USA Science and Engineering Festival on 6–8 April at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This is a HUGE event, and we are excited to participate, represent the aquatic sciences, and provide outreach to the public. Over 365,000 people attended the most recent festival in 2016. The Consortium of Aquatic Science Societies (CASS) has collected resources for an “Aquatic Sciences” booth with various activities like building models of plankton, interacting with aquatic insects, visualizations about the world's water resources, and getting a little messy creating alginate gel beads. These are easy activities to guide kids through and you will be provided with training at the event, as well as a CASS t-shirt. (Note, this is the ONLY way to get your hands on these coveted CASS items!) Please follow the link below to sign up for volunteering:

The festival is an excellent opportunity to share your experience as a coastal and estuarine scientist and speak directly to people of all ages about aquatic ecosystems. In 2016, nearly 2,000 people visited the CASS booth over the three-day festival! We are looking for volunteers to help staff the CASS exhibit and speak with the public for 3–4 hour shifts.

More about the Expo: The USA Science and Engineering Festival features 3,000 hands-on exhibits from the world’s leading scientific and engineering societies, universities, government agencies, high-tech corporations, and STEM organizations. The two-day Expo is targeted for children, teens, and families who want to inspire their curious minds.
