View a printable Conference Announcement. The conference theme in 2017 is Wetland Connections. Wetlands are places of connections. They occu r where land meets water, connecting the places that are “always dry& rdquo; and the places that are “always wet.” They can be places where surface water and groundwater connect, whether replenishing groundwa ter or releasing groundwater through seeps and springs. They are central to the concept and function of watersheds, helping manage the flow of water f rom the top of a watershed to the bottom. Wetlands also connect peopl e with nature and the landscape. They connect communities with natural solu tions to important issues like flooding and clean water. They are favorite go-to spots for birders, wildlife-watchers, paddlers, and hunters, providin g places for solace, respite, exercise, learning, and fun. The Wetlan d Science Conference offers wetland connections too: people connected with new information about wetlands to help us all work better; improved underst anding of the role wetlands play in our watersheds and our communities; and new and enriched relationships between people who love and work for wetlan ds. |
