Field’s Point Wastewater Treatment Facility Tour

Duration: 1:30 pm - 4 pm     |     Cost: $15     |     Limit: 34 participants

Ever wondered what happens after you flush the toilet?  To find out, join us for a tour of the Narragansett Bay Commission’s Field’s Point Wastewater Treatment Facility, the largest clean water facility and the nation’s third-oldest. Commissioned in 1901, the facility is one of the most technologically advanced wastewater treatment facilities in the nation. During the tour, you will have a chance to see three 1.5 mW wind turbines that provide roughly half of the facility’s energy requirements, a state-of-the-science water quality lab, and the world’s largest application of the Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge system for nitrogen removal. Be sure to dress warm as part of the tour will be outside. Closed-toe shoes are required and the tour will require some moderate walking and stairs. Bus transportation is included.
